Biz Markie's Emergency Food Pantry in Harlem is seeking dedicated and compassionate volunteers to join our team. As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in helping us fulfill our mission of alleviating food insecurity and providing essential resources to families facing financial hardship in our community. Your time and effort will make a significant difference in the lives of those we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Food Distribution: Assist in the efficient distribution of groceries to families in need. This may involve sorting, packing, and distributing food items.
2. Client Assistance: Provide a welcoming and respectful atmosphere for pantry visitors. Offer guidance and support to clients as they navigate the pantry.
3. Inventory Management: Help maintain an organized pantry by monitoring and restocking food items as needed. Ensure that all items are safe for consumption and within their expiration dates.
4. Sanitization and Cleanliness: Assist in maintaining a clean and sanitized environment to ensure the health and safety of our clients and volunteers.
5. Community Engagement: Engage with pantry visitors in a friendly and empathetic manner. Foster a sense of community and trust among clients.
6. Assistance with Special Events: Participate in special events and initiatives organized by the pantry, such as holiday food drives or fundraising efforts.

Qualifications:

• Compassion and empathy for individuals and families facing food insecurity.
• Ability to work well in a team and with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent communication skills and a friendly demeanor.
• Reliability and punctuality.
• Willingness to follow pantry guidelines and safety protocols.

Time Commitment: 

Volunteer shifts are typically 11am-2pm and are available on Fridays. We appreciate any time you can commit, whether it's on a weekly or occasional basis.
